What to Expect
In an ASSEMBLY SETTING, I will read the book Joshua’s Dragon (on a large screen, using a laptop & LCD projector) and introduce Joshua and his Dragon to the audience. Characters come to life as Joshua narrates his story along with dozens of sound effects and music creating an interactive book reading like no other. Because Joshua is assumed to have autism, I will be using him as a bridge to discuss everyday dragons in a fun, interactive way. It is important that children are able to view the world from another person’s perspective to help them develop positive relationships. Joshua will be portrayed as a strong, courageous child with a dragon just like ours.
Live props include a giant blow up dragon (Joshua's Dragon), dragon banners, commercial grade bubble machines, and much more!
Children Inspiring Children
My cooler than cool right hand man DJ, Joseph Bauer, will liven up the party with music, lights, dancing and music videos. Through active audience participation, movies, slideshows, sound effects and props, I will build social-awareness to help kids develop interpersonal skills. Building self-awareness and self-management skills enables children to determine their problem, set a goal, and come up with a plan of attack!
I will use true success stories of children who have demonstrated the characteristics of a successful dragon defender...with will and perseverance they were able to tame their dragons (challenges/obstacles) despite the immensity of obstacles in their way. I will also touch upon common, everyday dragons including shyness, clumsiness, allergies, asthma, and even fear of acceptance acknowledging that no one is perfect. I will encourage the audience to reflect upon their own personal stumbling blocks and come up with realistic strategies to tame their own dragon!
Included with two or more assemblies:
-Access to personalized Joshua's Dragon Certificates that can be passed out to students throughout the year who have successfully overcome a challenge or obstacle.
-Colored 11x17 posters with Joshua's Rules to be displayed around the school with an option to purchase more.
-Colored cards with Joshua's Rules to becoming a Dragon Defender that can be passed out to students throughout the year who need reminders.
-Access to Plan of Action Forms that can be filled out by students to set a goal and come up with strategies to overcome a challenge.
A Lesson In Dragon Defending
Joshua's Plan of Action
Keeping with the theme, EVERYONE HAS A DRAGON, I will give a lesson on dragon defending. To be a dragon defender one must be brave and strong. But more importantly, they must follow four basic rules:
Joshua's Plan of Action was very simple. He wasn't going to let his dragon stop him from seeing a lion for the first time. I will encourage participants to use Joshua's Plan when face to face with their dragon.
My Goal in Partnering With You

►To empower and motivate students using true stories of children who overcame life’s
obstacles to tame their dragon…to set a goal and persevere.
►To increase disability awareness in a fun & interactive way.
